Physiotherapy can help you create the life you want.

I am Ruth Smith, an expert physiotherapist and clinical Pilates instructor with over 20 years experience having qualified in 2002 from Kings College London. I am registered with The Health and Care Professions Council, The Chartered Society of Physiotherapy and trained in clinical Pilates with Australian Physio and Pilates Institute and Polestar.

I was inspired to be a physio from my involvement in elite sport as a teenager and went on to work in that sport - for the GB kayak team. I have a wide ranging experience from working in the NHS and private practice in clinics and hospitals across London.

My passion is in helping people to move better, without pain and do the things they love! I love sport myself and have done marathons, triathlons, skiing, kayaking, and currently love hiking and indoor climbing.

First Step

I will spend time listening to what the problem is and how it is impacting you. I will ask questions so that I can fully understand and start to get to the root of the issue and a clear diagnosis. I will want to know what your goals are and what is important to you so that we can build an effective treatment plan.

I would then look at how you move, what your strengths are and what your limitations are so that I can see what areas we will need to work on. There may be various tests that I do to either clarify the diagnosis or give a baseline measure of where your body is at the moment compared to where you want it to be.

Treatment Plan

We then put together a treatment plan that is appropriate, effective and realistic for you, don't worry I wont give you a million exercises to do every hour on the hour! I am a rehab physio which means I use movement and exercise to mobilise and strengthen the body, but when needed I also do hands-on treatment to assist this.

The treatment plan may also involve referring you to specialists such as orthopaedic surgeons, sport doctors or a rheumatologist, I have an excellent network of specialists that I work with if this is needed. My aim is to leave you with a full understanding of what the underlying problems are and a clear pathway of how you can resolve them.

Clinical Pilates

I also offer clinical Pilates sessions for those who perhaps are not currently injured but want to train and move well, I will still ask some questions at the beginning to get a clear idea of your body, your needs and goals. We work together to create a bespoke physio-led home Pilates programme for you and your body.

These can be done on a regular basis or ad hoc to support other training. I love working with a whole variety people, from pregnant women wanting to maintain strength through pregnancy, to athletes who want to find that extra 5%.

Going through this process will allow you the opportunity to be pain free, moving well, strong and resilient so that you finally get rid of those injures and niggles and get back to what you love!

Location

I am based in East Molesey and can see you at home in the surrounding areas - Surbiton, Kingston-upon-Thames, Thames Ditton, Hampton, Cobham, Esher, Claygate, Oxshott, Walton-on-Thames, Weybridge, Hersham.
